Congresswoman Calls Ellington “Fearless, Rooted in Community, and Willing to Challenge Power and the Status Quo”
(San Francisco, CA)--Today, Theo Ellington, candidate for District 10 Supervisor, announced his campaign has been endorsed by Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA), who represents the Bay Area’s 12th District, and who previously represented portions of Southeast San Francisco on the BART Board.
“Theo Ellington doesn’t just talk about justice, he organizes for it,” said Congresswoman Simon. “He stood up when City Hall was considering adopting Stop and Frisk, and shut it down. He took on corporate polluters for their environmental racism at the Hunters Point Shipyard, and he demanded accountability when others stayed quiet. Theo fights for working families, for dignity, and for communities that have been pushed to the margins for far too long. He’s homegrown, raising his family in the same neighborhood that raised him. So this work is personal and it’s urgent for him. We need leaders who are fearless, rooted in community, and willing to challenge power and the status quo. Theo Ellington is that leader, and I’m proud to endorse him for Supervisor."
“I’m humbled by Congresswoman Simon’s generous words and by her support,” said Theo Ellington. “This is a major endorsement. Congresswoman Simon is one of the Bay Area’s most inspiring leaders, a passionate voice for justice, and a rising national star in the Democratic Party. As the Congresswoman said, we need leaders who will fearlessly fight for the communities who have been pushed to the margins–perhaps now more than ever. I will be that leader at City Hall.”
Congresswoman Simon’s endorsement comes on the heels of the news earlier this week that the first major union to weigh in on the race for District 10 Supervisor–The United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 648–is also endorsing Ellington’s campaign. Others backing Ellington include Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Congressman Kevin Mullin, Senator Scott Wiener, Assemblymember Catherine Stefani, former Mayor London Breed, Supervisors Stephen Sherrill, Matt Dorsey, and Danny Sauter, and community leaders from every neighborhood in San Francisco’s District 10.
District 10 includes the neighborhoods of Bayview-Hunters Point, Candlestick Point, Central Waterfront, Dogpatch, India Basin, Little Hollywood, McLaren Park, Potrero Hill, Silver Terrace, Sunnydale, Bayshore Heights, and Visitacion Valley. Incumbent Supervisor Shamann Walton terms out in November 2026.
