First Major Union to Weigh in on District 10 Race Says Ellington Will Be “The Supervisor Working Families Can Count On”
(San Francisco, CA) – Today, The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Union, Local 648 endorsed Theo Ellington for District 10 Supervisor. Local 648 represents San Francisco workers at Safeway, Lucky, Walgreens, and more. They are the first major union to endorse a candidate in the race for District 10.
“Theo Ellington will be the Supervisor who working families can count on,” said UFCW, Local 648 President Dan Larson. “Throughout his career, he has consistently stood up for good jobs, decent wages, affordable housing, and economic opportunity for all San Franciscans and he has delivered. We need him at City Hall in order to build the neighborhoods that District 10's working families deserve.”
“I’m a proud part of three generations of hardworking San Franciscans,” said Theo Ellington. “My grandfather built a life in San Francisco and raised my mom on a laborer’s salary. My mom raised my brother and me on $18,000 a year working concessions at Candlestick Park. Neither of those things is possible in today’s San Francisco, and that much change. I’ve spent my life making a difference for the neighborhoods that raised, me and as Supervisor, I’ll fight hard to create good-paying jobs for our workforce, and to deliver the affordable housing, reliable public transit, healthy environments, and clean and safe streets our working families need in order to stay in San Francisco and thrive for generations to come. I am deeply honored by UFCW’s vote of confidence in our campaign."
“The first major union to weigh in on this race has weighed in for us,” continued Ellington. “This speaks volumes about the coalition we are building across District 10 and about our ability, once we get into office, to bring diverse interests together to build the neighborhoods Southeast San Francisco deserves.”
UFCW, Local 648 joins a broad and growing coalition endorsing Ellington’s campaign, including Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Congressman Kevin Mullin, Senator Scott Wiener, Assemblymember Catherine Stefani, former Mayor London Breed, Supervisors Stephen Sherrill, Matt Dorsey, and Danny Sauter, and community leaders from every neighborhood in San Francisco’s District 10.
District 10 includes the neighborhoods of Bayview-Hunters Point, Candlestick Point, Central Waterfront, Dogpatch, India Basin, Little Hollywood, McLaren Park, Potrero Hill, Silver Terrace, Sunnydale, Bayshore Heights, and Visitacion Valley. Incumbent Supervisor Shamann Walton terms out in November 2026.
