Statement on Trump Sending Federal Immigration Agents to San Francisco Bay Area

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 22, 2025

(San Francisco, CA) – Today, District 10 Supervisor candidate Theo Ellington released the following statement in response to news that the Trump Administration is sending more than 100 federal agents (including ICE) to the Bay Area:

“Federal troops have been sent to San Francisco three times in the past, including in 1966 when they were dispatched to the neighborhood around the Ruth Williams Bayview Opera House, where I’m currently the Executive Director, after a young person was shot in the neighborhood and the community stood firm in protest.

But make no mistake, this is not a similar situation. San Franciscans deserve to enjoy life in this city without the fear of unlawful separations, attacks, and raids. We do not need this, nor do we want the presence of federal troops in our communities.

This is yet another authoritarian step from America’s wannabe dictator. This is an attempt to inflame tensions in our cities, not calm them. This is an effort to divide our communities against each other, rather than bring us together.

We, again, stand firm as a proud city of immigrants and fighters for civil rights against federal agents on our streets and in our neighborhoods.”
